Miche Sepi and Lavender Crest Winery

Attending a friend's wedding in Colona, Illinois I learned that the state, before Prohibition, was the second largest wine producer in the U.S. (Corn and soybeans are now major crops in Illinois; notice the corn behind the grapes.) My favorite red produced by the Lavender Crest Winery, site of the wedding, was the Miche Sepi, named for the nearby Mississippi River. It's blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Marechal Foch, and De Chanauc. Dry, easy to drink, but with a healthy dose of fruit.
