Long Live 'The Duke'

During our first trip to Sonoma in May 2005 we discovered Wellington Vineyards and 'The Duke.' We bought a couple of bottles and went back twice - for a full case each time which we shared with happy friends. At $5 per bottle it was a great deal - inexpensive and a powerhouse of dry fruit and pepper. The glass pictured above represents our last glass of 'The Duke.' Last because the vineyard is no longer producing the wine. The first batches were made from bulk wine from three types of old-vine grapes. The vineyard could not get a good price for bulk at the time, so 'The Duke' was created and became a bestseller. Cheers!
